Introduction
Polidori is being developed to help people to create their own DVD's. Polidori provides an easy to use GTK compliant GUI to drive some of the excellent tools that are now avilable such as DVDAUTHOR, but simplifies the task of creating the necessary XML files which DVDAUTHOR requires.
Here are two examples where people might want to use Polidori :-
a) People who create their own Home Video in DV format and want to transfer an edited version of the final project onto DVD media. The steps involved in this process are typically :-
1) Capture the DV using an Application such as Kino
2) Edit the DV and add effects using an application such as Kino
3) Render the edited creation to a DVD compliant MPEG2 file
4) Use Polidori to Author the DVD producing the necessary VIDEO_TS files and optionally a DVD.iso file
5) Finally burn the VIDEO_TS or DVD.iso files to DVD media using either Polidori or another suitable burning application such as K3b
b) People who want to create a backup copy of their DVD collection. In doing this individuals should of course ensure that they do not infringe the copyright laws.
The steps would typically be :-
1) Use a suitable application to grab the VIDEO_TS files and convert into one or more MPEG2 files.
2) Use Polidori to Author the DVD producing the necessary VIDEO_TS files and optionally a DVD.iso file
3) Finally burn the VIDEO_TS or DVD.iso files to DVD using either Polidori or a suitable burning application such as K3b
